A lucky hit from a Swordfish biplane torpedo jammed the Bismarck's rudder, leaving her unable to maneuver. Surrounded and battered, she was eventually sunk on May 27, 1941. Today, her wreck remains a silent monument at the bottom of the Atlantic, preserved by the deep-sea gloom and the memories of her brief, explosive career.
