The first building on the left, the tall one in the front, is the Traction building. Built in 1903, it served as the headquarters of the Cincinnati Traction Co, which owned and maintained the city's streetcar tracks. It's 15 stories tall, has a steel frame and has neoclassical details. Behind that one is the Mercantile Library. They named it after 45 merchants who started it in 1835. Their originally library burned down, but they were able to save some of the furniture, which they still use today. This building was built in 1908, and they have a very flexible 10,000 year lease. Behind that one is the Union Trust Building, built in 1901, at the time was the tallest building around, until Fourth and Walnut Center was made. Many of these buildings still exist today, the ones not with us is the one on the right in the front, and the one next to the traction building on the left, the Peebles cigar store.
