Daruma doll are traditional Japanese good luck charms that are widely known as symbols of good fortune, success, and perseverance. The Japanese word “福入” (fuku-iri) written on the belly of a Daruma doll mean “bringing in good fortune” or “may happiness and luck come to you.” It is a wish for the owner to receive good luck, and this is why Daruma dolls with this inscription are called “lucky Daruma” in Japan.
