The Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary is located in the Senegal River Delta, in the northwest of Senegal. As the third largest bird sanctuary in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site, it provides a crucial resting and feeding ground for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds on their journey between Europe and Africa. This complex ecosystem of lakes, ponds, and marshes supports a spectacular array of waterfowl, including the impressive Grey Heron, especially during the dry winter months.
