From his great Economics in One Lesson, to his book The Foundations of Morality, Hazlitt, maybe more than any other writer in the 20th Century, is likely responsible for most supporters of free markets. His brilliant works made plane the miraculous benefits of freedom, and his steadfastness over decades writing about the philosophy and logic of free human action helped build the intellectual movement there is today. In a way, every advocate of liberty now has at one point hoisted themselves up - knowingly or not - on the shoulders of Hazlitt. Illustration by Dan McCall.
