Lady Godiva ポスター

This is a reproduction of "Lady Godiva" of 1898 by John Collier. This English artist of the Pre-Raphaelite School painted this work when he was forty-eight years old. He studied at the Munich Academy and was one of the most prominent portraitists of his age. The Prince of Wales was his major patron and he died in 1934. This painting of a major English mythological tale which depicts the wife of Earl Leofric of Mercia riding through Coventry to protest an unfair tax. The legend dates from the Thirteenth Century and was popular in Victorian England as a morality tale.
