The folklore being that witches were most active during a new moon or a full moon and could shapeshift into the form of a rabbit. Thus the foot you carried for good luck and protection was actually a bone from the shapeshifting witch. Now a days most lucky rabbit feet sold are made of faux fur so we don’t see many people wandering the cemetery at night with a bunny in their grasp. Definitely a lucky turn of events for the rabbit.
