"What can the wisdom of eagles teach us about facing adversity?" Every morning, I wake to the lapping of waves against the dock near our home. Here, I often see them — Marge and Dale — a pair of resident bald eagles who have made this place their sanctuary. Their majestic forms perched peacefully on the dock or atop their favorite trees fill me with awe and inspiration. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been captivated by eagles. Their power and grace seem to reflect true strength and resilience. To me, they symbolize freedom and wisdom, an embodiment of nature’s quiet but unyielding spirit. Watching Marge and Dale has deepened this connection, as they remind me time and again of the virtues of patience, endurance, and purpose. Marge and Dale’s peaceful existence is often interrupted by flocks of smaller birds—crows, seagulls, and others—who seem intent on pestering the larger eagles. They circle and dive, causing a ruckus, seemingly trying to provoke a reaction. I’ve often wondered why these majestic eagles don’t use their powerful talons and wings to fend off the aggressors. It would be so easy for them to retaliate. But instead, in their God-given wisdom, Marge and Dale remain unbothered. They shake off the nuisance, unfurl their great wings, and soar into the sky, leaving the chaos behind. Rather than engage in conflict, the eagles rise above it—literally. With a few powerful beats of their wings, they shake off their tormentors and ascend to greater heights, continuing on their way. They understand that engaging would only invite more trouble, that the attacking birds would call for reinforcements, putting them in unnecessary peril. It’s a display of true grace, watching them refuse to be dragged down by petty squabbles. The eagles seem to know that their purpose lies far beyond these fleeting moments of irritation. It's as if they understand that engaging in a pointless fight would only distract them from their greater purpose. Watching them rise gracefully above the chaos is a humbling reminder of the power of composure and self-restraint. After the chaos of the sky settles, Marge and Dale do not hold on to their offense, but continue to what they intended to do, always returning to a favorite tree. This is Marge, who has found her rest in one of hers, with a background of a setting moon at sunrise. It’s a place of peace, high above the fray, where she can regain her composure and strength. Through my time of observing Marge and Dale, I’ve learned an important lesson. The eagles show us that strength isn’t always about fighting back. Sometimes, true power lies in rising above conflict and continuing on with grace.
