Deer are ruminant mammals in the family Cervidae, and are commonly found in all 50 U.S. States. The photos in this calendar are mostly white-tailed deer and the mule deer (black-tailed deer). They were photographed in various habitats, including the woods and fields of New York State, the sand dunes of Long Island, the rural areas of northern Montana, the Olympic Mountains of Washington State, and the coastal areas of Northern California.
