Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan is one of India’s best-known wildlife reserves, covering around 392 square kilometers of dry deciduous forest, lakes, and rocky hills at the junction of the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges. Once a royal hunting ground, it is centered on the ruins of 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, whose ancient walls and temples add dramatic scenery to the landscape of grasslands and dense forest. The park is celebrated for its healthy population of Bengal tigers that are relatively accustomed to vehicles, making sightings more reliable than in many other reserves. It also shelters leopards, sloth bears, striped hyenas, marsh crocodiles, sambar deer, and over 300 bird species. Open from October to June, Ranthambore offers jeep and canter safaris across distinct zones, giving visitors a strong chance to view tigers and experience Rajasthan’s rugged wilderness alongside layers of history.
