The branch broke at a height no deer reaches. Bigfoot crossed the American dark, ape faced, huge among the trees, a walker that does not explain itself. People who heard the step did not follow. They went home with a bigfoot gift already in the ears. It returns in bigfoot playing cards that feel too large for the hand, in a bigfoot notebook with a stride marked in the margin, in a bigfoot postcard of the tree line and the turned shoulder. The wood goes still. The step does not.
