Hay Scottish Clan New Slains and Delgatie Castles

Members of the Hay family around the world can enjoy unique gifts that celebrate their ancient Scottish Clan Hay heritage and its history at New Slains Castle and Delgatie Castle, both in Scotland. The Hay clan's roots came into Scotland by way of the Norman Invasion in 1066. Delgatie and New Slains are two of the ancient castles associated with the Hay Clan. The family located in Aberdeenshire. Delgatie Castle, a 12th-century tower house, is the Clan Hay Center. New Slains Castle was the clan seat for generations. The structure of Delgatie Castle dates from about 1045 and has been owned by the Hay family for the last 650 years or so. It is located about three miles from Turriff, where the first skirmish in the civil war between the Covenanters and the Royalists took place in May 1639. The Hay clan’s New Slains Castle overlooks the North Sea east of Cruden Bay in Scotland.It was the stronghold of the Hay Clan and residence of the chief, the Earl of Earroll. The 9th Earl of Earrol constructed New Slains as a Tower house in the 16th century. It has undergone numerous renovations over the years. The last time was in 1837 when it was re-constructed in a Scots Baronial style. Once famous for its three gardens, New Slains Castle is now a roofless ruin. It is a Historic Environment Scotland Category B listed building. Delgatie is not just open for tours, but offers itself as accommodation for those who wish to visit the area - or did prior to the pandemic.
