Ivan Shishkin, The forest clearing

Collection inspired by two landscape paintings by Russian artist Ivan Shiskin (1831–1898), The forest clearing (1896) and Rye (1878). Shishkin is closely associated with the Peredvizhniki (The Wanderers) movement. The Wanderers were a goup of realist painters who wanted to give people from the provinces a chance to follow the achievements of Russian Art. The society arranged dozens of mobile exhibitions in St. Petersburg and Moscow, after which they were shown in Kyiv, Kharkov, Kazan, Oryol, Riga, Odessa and other cities. They also painted landscapes to explore the beauty of their own country and encourage ordinary people to love and preserve it. Ivan Shiskin painted only landscapes, and mostly forests, he is still considered to be the Russian "Singer of forest".
