Mendon Ponds Park in Monroe County NY has several glacial ponds that were created during the last Ice Age. As the mountain-sized glaciers receded to form the Great Lakes, they left a memento of their ancient presence. Located only a 20 minute drive from downtown Rochester NY, the park encompasses 2,500 acres and is maintained by Monroe County Parks Department. With over 30 miles of hiking trails, numerous pavilions and picnic tables scattered among the trees, as well as restroom facilities, the Park is a local favorite.
