Port and Starboard

Sailor talk is not just for sailors. When you're on a ship or boat, it's not left or right, it's port or starboard. The port side of the ship is NOT the one facing the nearest port. It's the side to your left when YOU are facing FORWARD, or towards the bow of the vessel. Conversely, to your right (when facing forward) is starboard. COLORS: Red and green are used for 'sides' in navigation. Among other things: Red running lights identify a vessel's port side, and green ones shine on starboard.
