Saint Ambrose

Saint Ambrose by Claude Vignon (1623-1625) Saint Ambrose Ambrose of Milan, venerated as Saint Ambrose, was a theologian and statesman who served as Bishop of Milan from 374 to 397. He expressed himself prominently as a public figure, fiercely promoting Roman Christianity against Arianism and paganism. Ambrose is also remembered as the teacher who converted and baptized St. Augustine of Hippo, the great Christian theologian, and as a model bishop who viewed the church as rising above the ruins of the Roman Empire. He is a patron saint of Milan and of beekeepers. Died: April 4, 397 AD,
