Alaskan Highway 1942 Stamp Historical WWII Route
The Alaska Highway—also known as the Alaskan Highway, the Alaska-Canadian Highway, or simply the ALCAN—cuts through some of North America’s most breathtaking wilderness. Built during World War II as a strategic route to connect the lower 48 states to Alaska, this legendary road begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and winds its way through the rugged Yukon to Delta Junction, Alaska. Originally stretching about 2,700 kilometers (1,700 miles) when completed in 1942, the route has since been straightened and realigned, bringing its current length to 2,232 kilometers (1,387 miles). Once known as a treacherous and unforgiving drive, the Alaska Highway is now fully paved and welcomes modern travelers with open roads and jaw-dropping scenery. [Wikipedia]
