Bridge over Douro River, Porto, Portugal

This beautiful Iron bridge was built in 1881–85 from a design by a disciple of the French civil engineer Gustave Eiffel. It’s called Dom Luís Bridge (or Ponte Luís I) and is located in Porto city in northern Portugal, over the Douro River. Douro River is spanned in central Porto by several bridges, sometimes called the city of bridges”. The top deck has the Metro do Porto light rail system (line D) and a pedestrian walkway, offering great views of the historic center of Porto, the Port wine caves of Vila Nova de Gaia, and the river Douro. The lower bridge is for road traffic and has pedestrian walkways on the side.
