A German Räucherman (Smoker Man) incense burner, in this case depicting a wood cutter, superimposed on an old paper background image. French text reading "Joyeux Noël" (Merry Christmas) also appears. Add your own additional text on the reverse side. The burning of incense in smokers symbolizes the gift of incense brought to Jesus by the Three Wise Men. Smokers first appeared around 1850 near Heidelberg. Many figures from everyday are used as a motif: salesmen, bakers, foresters, miners, chimney sweepers, Santa Claus, etc.
