It is a member of the Sea Catfishes family and is found in fresh and brackish waters. It is native to the west and east coast of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar to the Arafura Sea and the Indo-Australian Archipelago. It feeds on invertebrates and small fishes. It can reach a maximum length of 80 cm (31.5 inches).
