The idea for the store came about in an unexpected fashion. While grappling with the loss of a spouse, a newly widowed lady in her mid-seventies, learned to sketch and paint. She then discovered that her art can be used in designing products. The designs in the products are testaments that there is no age limit with learning and that it is possible to reflect beauty regardless of circumstance. What’s in a name? FoothillsCarmel has several layers, just like the designs created by it. Foothills being where the creator, Carmen, is inspired to do her art. As to the word Carmel, It is known to translate to “garden,” “orchard,” or “vineyards of God,” which is apropos as Carmen’s inspiration brings forth creative growth in the form of botanical art and more. In addition, the word “Carmel” has the first five letters of Carmen’s first name, and if the word is reversed, it has the first three letters of Carmen’s late husband’s first name, Lemuel. As such everything about the word, FoothillsCarmel, it’s multiple meanings etc., are special just like the designs FoothillsCarmel originates.
