When I was about four years old, I asked for a hammer and nails for Christmas, so I could pound away like my dad and my big brother. The whole family laughed--but, bless them, there under the Christmas tree was a half-pound hammer with a pink bow on it, and a box of nails. A few years later, I got the chemistry and physics kits I longed for. I grew up into a career teaching technical subjects at the college level. But it didn't damage my femininity a bit--I'm told I "clean up right purty." Girls have always been discouraged from--even forbidden--the STEM subjects, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This store is dedicated to restoring the balance by encouraging them to develop whatever STEM skills and abilities they have been blessed with and grow into the whole person they are meant to be.
