Michael Nylander Art

My name is Michael Nylander. I am an American expat, living full-time in beautiful Italy. I fell into working with watercolor by sheer cooincidence, but have grown a rather deep passion for painting. I take the medium of watercolor, often represented in a "loose" and "liquid" way, and create pieces that are defined by strong, deliberate lines and vivid color. Painting has become more than a hobby for me. Having a physical disability known as Strumpell Lorraine Syndrome, painting allows me a way to escape, while creating something beautiful. Regardless of the piece I am creating, I always give my all to the work, using the process as a sort of deep meditation, and losing myself in the process of creating each piece. There are many who say that watercolor is among the most difficult of mediums to work with, as it has very little control that it allows. And this is the exact reason why I love working with watercolor, so much. Because it is a challenge, and allows me a chance to claim complete control over a process that is difficult, but beautiful, all at the same time.
