I've spoken around the world about creating gender inclusive environments in the workplace and academia. If you've been at one of my events, you've heard my catch phrase "not cool." I share this phrase with you, and I encourage you to make your own too. I was shopping for my niece's first birthday and noticed that all the first birthday cards at the store either said "boy" or "girl" on them. The boy cards were blue with trucks, bears, and dinosaurs. The girl cards were a glitter nightmare (glitter is forever) with a heavy princess theme. I just wanted a simple birthday card that said "happy first birthday" for my smart niece without imposing any stereotypes. I couldn't find that card, so I created one.
