Ruza Erceg, my grandmother, was born in 1898, in the farming and fishing village of Imotski, Croatia, and came to America as a young bride in 1922. Primarily relying on memory and imagination, Ruza worked with watercolors to depict the rural villages and countryside where she spent her youth in Croatia. Ruza's life as a mother and artist came to an end in 1993 at the age of 94. Having people enjoy her art today I know brings a smile to her face wherever she may be.
