Sumo Ukiyo-e 2027 Wall Calendar カレンダー

Twelve months inside the world of sumo, drawn in the bold lines and flat colors of traditional Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Follow the wrestlers through a full year of tournaments, training and everyday life: January — a yokozuna performs the solemn dohyo-iri ring-entering ceremony, one leg raised high, before a packed Kokugikan crowd; February — dawn at the stable, where young wrestlers train in the clay ring under their senior's watchful eye; March — the tachi-ai, the explosive first charge as two wrestlers collide head-on; April — wrestlers in colorful kimono stroll beneath cherry blossoms on a spring regional tour; May — a spectacular throw, one wrestler hurled through the air above the straw bales; June — the whole stable gathered around a steaming chanko hot pot, sumo's famous communal stew; July — wrestlers in light yukata enjoy a summer festival street glowing with paper lanterns; August — a mighty shiko leg-stomp beneath towering white summer clouds; September — the ornate referee with his war fan beside the ring as the announcer calls the wrestlers' names; October — tall nobori banners flutter among red maples at a countryside tour venue; November — the champion's victory, as colorful kensho prize banners parade around the ring; December — snow falls on the stable while fans in warm coats study the newly posted banzuke ranking chart. A striking calendar for sumo fans, lovers of Japanese woodblock art, and anyone fascinated by Japan's ancient national sport. A thoughtful gift for martial arts enthusiasts and collectors of ukiyo-e style art.
