Turtle Islands Trees Fantasy Illustration 吊り下げ型タペストリー

Image inspired by the Gaia Hypothesis. It depicts an alternate reality where an ocean has covered the entire Earth, submerging even the highest peaks. Here, trees can only grow on the backs of turtles. The turtles are herbivorous, so they depend on this floating forest for food. However, they cannot reach the leaves or fruit on their own trees, generally speaking. Instead, each turtle grazes on its neighbor’s tree. They have to be interdependent. Humans live upon the turtles. They contribute to the ecosystem by tending and fertilizing the trees. I drew this illustration with ink and colored pencil, but added the Celtic knots in Procreate.
