Ukiyo-e Cats Japanese Festivals カレンダー

Spend the year with a pair of charming cats celebrating Japan's seasonal festivals. In the 19th century, the ukiyo-e master Utagawa Kuniyoshi, a famous cat lover, delighted Edo audiences with prints of cats dressed in kimono and acting like people. This calendar is inspired by his playful spirit, reimagined in a calm, gentle style: delicate sumi ink lines, flat colors, soft gradations, and natural muted tones on a warm ecru paper base. Throughout the year, a calico cat and a gray tabby cat take part in a traditional Japanese event each month. What's inside: January – Playing hanetsuki, the New Year battledore game February – Setsubun bean throwing to chase away the oni demon March – Admiring hina dolls for the Doll Festival April – A cherry blossom picnic (hanami) May – Reaching for koinobori carp streamers June – Sharing a red umbrella among rainy-season hydrangeas July – Hanging wishes on bamboo for Tanabata August – Watching summer fireworks in yukata September – Moon viewing with dango and pampas grass October – Autumn leaf viewing under red maples November – A kitten's Shichi-Go-San shrine visit December – Slurping toshikoshi soba on New Year's Eve What makes it special: • No year appears in the artwork, so you can start your calendar from any month you like. • Designed in Japan. Each image was illustrated with AI, then hand-selected month by month for how well it captures the feeling of the season. • Front cover: a gentle procession of cats carrying seasonal treasures. Back cover: the two cats bowing in thanks beside a sleeping kitten. A heartwarming gift for cat lovers and anyone who enjoys Japanese culture and traditions.
